Purpose:This test method covers the determination of the dropping point of lubricating grease. This test method is not recommended for use at bath temperatures above 288°C. Supplied without Glass Thermometer

Compliance with following International Standards :

ASTM D566, IP 132, ISO 2176

Significance & Use :

In general, the dropping point is the temperature at which the grease passes from a semisolid to a liquid state under the conditions of test. This change in state is typical of greases containing as thickeners soaps of conventional types. This test method is useful to assist in identifying the grease as to type and for establishing and maintaining bench marks for quality control.

Apparatus Details :

The complete test assembly consists of following parts & accessories

1) Grease Cup

A chromium‑plated brass cup conforming to ASTM Standard D566

2) Test Tube

  1. A test tube of heat‑resistant glass with rim,
  2. 100 to 103 mm in length
  3. 11.1 to 12.7 mm in inside diameter
  4. Provided with three indentations about 19 mm from the bottom,
  5. equally spaced on the circumference.

3) Thermometers (At Extra cost)

  1. Temperature range    : ‑5 to 300 C
  2. Thermometer Number : ASTM 2C / IP 62C

4) Cork for test tube

  1. Cover for test tube

5) Brass rod (Metal Rod)

  1. 1.2 ‑ 1.6 mm in diameter
  2. 150 ‑ 152 mm in length

6) Heating device with motorized stirrer

  1. Consist of 600 ml glass beaker as an oil bath
  2. Oil bath equipped with necessary heating elements
  3. A ring stand
  4. A ring support for the oil bath
  5. A motorized stirrer
  6. A stand for F.H.P. Motorized Stirrer
