Application :
The EIE Drop Melting Point Apparatus is designed for determination of the Drop Melting Point of Petroleum Wax in accordance with IP 371. The apparatus is particularly suitable for testing petrolatum, microcrystalline wax and similar petroleum wax products.
Test Principle
The test specimens are deposited on the bulbs of two chilled thermometers by dipping them into the prepared sample. The thermometers carrying the specimens are positioned inside test tubes and gradually heated in a controlled water bath.
The Drop Melting Point is determined as the average temperature at which the first drop of melted sample falls from each thermometer bulb.
Construction & Features :
- Robust heating unit housed in a mild steel enclosure.
- Digital Temperature Controller provides controlled heating of the water bath.
- Transparent Pyrex glass jar of approximately 1500 ml capacity serves as the water bath.
- Pyrex jar is provided with a specially designed Teflon cover for proper positioning of the test assembly.
- Teflon cover incorporates provision for:
- Accommodation and positioning of the test tube.
- Cork stopper with central opening for holding the test tube.
- Filling port with removable cap for convenient addition of bath liquid.
- Separate opening with suitable cork holder for positioning the bath thermometer.
- Glass test tube of approximately 25 mm outside diameter × 150 mm length.
- Test tube is provided with a suitable cork stopper with central opening for positioning the test thermometer.
- Designed for convenient operation and observation of the sample during determination of the drop melting point.
